Canelo Alvarez to defend unified super-middleweight belt against Jaime Munguia

On May 04, 2024, Canelo Alvarez will challenge for his super-middleweight title against Mexico’s Jaime Munguia. The announcement was made by the reigning Mexican champion directly on his official X account.

Undisputed champion of the super-middleweight category, Canelo Alvarez has just accepted a new opponent against whom he will have to defend his title. The Mexican boxing phenomenon will have to defend his title against his compatriot Jaime Munguia.

The fight will take place on May 04, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and promises to be a great event for English boxing fans.

Canelo Alvarez, an undisputed champion :

At 33 years of age, Canelo Alvarez has 60 victories to his name, including 39 before the limit, two draws and two defeats, the last of which came in his head-to-head with Russian boxer Dmitri Bivol.

In the super-middleweight category, living legend Canelo Alvarez unified the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF belts in 2021 against English boxer Caleb Plant. After this easy victory, Canelo Alvarez had to defend his title three times, most recently in September 2024 against American boxer Jermell Charlo, whom he defeated by referee stoppage in the seventh round.

On May 04, Canelo Alvarez will have to defend his title once again, against what may prove to be one of his biggest challenges, compatriot Jaime Munguia, who has no fewer than 43 fights to his credit, with 43 victories, including 34 before the limit.

It’s time for English boxing fans to see living legend Canelo Alvarez back in the ring, especially after his flawless performance against American boxer Charlo, during which he demonstrated his unfailing ability to adapt to his opponent, and his ability to read the fight.

And despite the fact that Canelo Alvarez had sown doubts about his ability to perform at the top level, especially after his loss to Dmitri Bivol, who had a better comabt IQ, he was able to counter the various offensives of the Mexican phenomenon Canelo Alvarez.

Taking place at the T-Mobile Arena, this fight will be eagerly awaited by fans, although many others criticize him for this choice of opponent, and call him being favored by professional boxing federations, who avoid him certain opponents to the detriment of others.
Thus, while fans had expressed the wish to see him fight Benavidez, Canelo Alvarez seems not to have taken this wish into consideration.

Hopefully, if Canelo Alvarez’s next fight goes according to plan, he’ll be able to schedule a bout against Benavidez to satisfy the fans’ wishes, and demonstrate that he’s the undisputed champion of the category.
